Rehearsals rehearsals rehearsals

Rehearsals, rehearsals, rehearsals, BUT THE LINES JUST AREN'T GOING IN AND THE SHOW OPENS IN JUST OVER TWO WEEKS.

Apart from that, it's honestly looking lovely, though. This is for the show I'm performing with Esther in Brighton, and probably Camden as well by the looks of things. A bit like when I was writing it, there's so much more pressure for the performance of it when there's someone else involved. I'm really happy with my solo stuff, but I'm also not exactly word-for-word with those, I have the freedom to change it on the spot. But when there's somebody else onstage with you, they're relying on you and you're relying on them. It's a whole new experience for me, it's a lot harder than I thought. We meet most evenings after work to run the script, and we both work long hours, but we're into this and she's one of my best friends so it never feels like pressure until we realise we're just not as close to nailing this as we thought we were. I've got a night off tonight, but that's only to attend a student showcase event, but then back on it at the weekend. Surely, at some point, these lines have to just...well, stay in my head? They have to. We open soon.

In the meantime, I've been grumpy with the band because we're settling more and more on being a 'local band' and there's nothing more that annoys me than that. The joy of this band is that we travel the UK (and much further beyond) and play to new audiences, but all this talk of 'local gigs would be nice because of work' makes me a frustrated. We've suddenly got old, contented, and before you know it we'll be playing the same three venues every week. It'll get boring, audiences will diminish and we'll quietly whimper out.

This situation is the opposite of my theatre/comedy stuff though. Not sure why I'm suddenly getting so many offers as a stand-up these days, as I quit that stuff six years ago, but it's nice to still be asked. For my solo shows I've now confirmed performances in Brighton (x2, for both productions), Edinburgh (x7, for both productions), Tunbridge Wells (x3), Durham (x3), Scarborough, Manchester and a few more one-offs with no geographical logic. Could do with working out how to turn that ABS light off my car, but apart from that, I'm rather excited by it all.

Anyway. Lines. All 23 pages of them. Must learn those lines.
